TIPS:

I have a large rubbermade tote full of furniture items to create different scenes.  Since I have limited space for scenes, I just get out what I want to use and place the rest in storage.  I found the furniture items either in playsets (mattel, Gloria), or used everyday items for different pieces and many were painted for a custom look.  To paint the plastic items, I used Krylon Fusion paint.  On the "wood"-look items, I used Krylon Fusion as a base and then used basic bottled acrylic paints to get a wood grained finish.  For furniture items that have a metallic trimmed finish, I used paint pens either in gold or silver.  These are good also to use on accessories such as small plates or candles.

You can find items almost anywhere to use in your projects.  For example, many candleholders, or even bathroom items such as toothbrush holders or tumblers can be used as side tables in living rooms.  Some craft stores have pin cushions that are perfect scale to use as chairs for the 1/6th scale dolls.  The scrapbooking section in craft stores is a great place for accessories such as picture frames, etc.  Some dollhouse items work too!  Check discount places such as Marshalls, Big Lots, TJ Maxx...many times these stores have things such as jewelry boxes or storage boxes that can be used as armoires or doll cabinets.
